I’m so full of myself that I actually quote myself. People should do that more often. You know, every once in a while you spit out that pearl which just makes you go: Aaahh. You repeat the words to yourself, tasting them as if they were a delicious piece of chocolate.
#7 “Women are like fire. Man thinks he created it and that it can be controlled but doesn’t realize that it will burn your life to the ground if you don’t respect it.”

I’ve been looking to buy a new laptop for a while. Like any other geek I have been drooling over Intel’s new i7 processors. Now, if you’re reading this and wondering what the hell that is… that is okay, I don’t expect everyone to know what it is. However, if you’re working as a salesman for one of Malta’s biggest computer stores, the following conversation should never happen.
Salesman: Hi, may I help you?
Me: Yes, I’m looking to buy a new laptop and I want one which has the i7.
Salesman: i7?
Me: Yes, you know, the “new” processor from Intel which has been on the market for, I don’t know, a year?
Salesman: Ah, processor. Well, I have very good dual core here.
Me: No, I’m sorry that’s not good enough. I produce music and video and need something really fast.
Salesman: But what do you mean i7?
Me: Ehm, you know… there is dual core, then came i3, i5 and i7. I want a laptop with the i7 processor.
Salesman: Hmmm, i7. Ah, i7! You mean like iPhone, iMac? Because we don’t sell Apple.

I was looking for inspiration in the writings of our dear contemporary poet Haddaway for answers and the best answer to the question was: “Whoa whoa whoa, oooh oooh!” Well, that didn’t make things easier.
But seriously, this thing called love. What is that? I’m a rational man, anything you say I can pretty much dissect into equations, statistics or science, but what do you call it when a person who shouldn’t and really doesn’t deserve a smile, still gets a smile? Is that love?
What about a pair of perfectly symmetrical breasts? Intense eyes? Succulent lips?A cute accent? A beautiful mind? What is love?

Shanel Debattista was the Miss World candidate for Malta last year. I had run across her photos more then a year before that and since then always wanted to take her photo for several reasons. The main reason was that I’ve always wanted to photograph a professional model, in a none professional manner. What I mean is, no fake lights, no heavy makeup, no stylists and not trying to sell anything.
I wanted to pull out the natural beauty, vulnerability and strength from a woman who is used to use her looks in a different way, doing the million dollar smile and being seductive and pleasing. The makeup came off, the lights were switched off and just by using a black or white background and natural light from the window we had a very honest, fun and spontaneous photoshoot.
We met briefly at a club about 1,5 year ago and I added her on Facebook, where she usually posts photos from her various shoots. I used to comment on them frequently and usually I was the only one who would leave a negative comment. Not about her or her performance, or shall I say potential… but rather complaining about the photographers who had overexposed her face and body, had incorrect white balance making her skin look orange etc. She finally told me to put my camera where my mouth is and we agreed to meet after the Miss World competition. Said and done, this was the result.

Through life there are ups and downs and I’ve made peace with that a long time ago. Sometimes it helps to write about it, hell I recorded 3 full albums because of it. Anyway, I wrote this piece this morning and I’d like to share it with you. The piece is about how sometimes, you just don’t feel like you belong, or don’t understand the surroundings you are in. It’s confusing, isolating and somewhat depressing, but like everything in this universe, a passing thing. Feel free to leave comments after the reading.
———————————————————————————————————-
They say that no man is an island but I’m a completely different planet.
Orbiting around Earth, it seems that’s the way the universe planned it.
The reason why escapes me but this is where I’ve been planted.
Stranded circling heavenly bodies. I’ve seen it and I’ve scanned it.
There is an obvious gravity, keeping me in distant rotation.
I’m doing annual laps and keeping tabs trying to keep my concentration.
As seasons change, the tide goes back and forth by the adjacent.
And every once in a while, there is a catastrophe caused by friction and displacement. Read the rest of this entry »
