PAST AND PRESENT OF EMIL BRIKHA

I was born 1979 from Assyrian parents Janet and Ashour and I have one older brother, Aril Brikha. Photography and DJing were the first of art forms which I picked up at the age of 14. Three years later I dove straight into a depression and turned to meditation and writing, that’s when I started rapping and writing poetry.

One year later I needed music to my words but couldn’t find anyone to work with so I bought a small midi keyboard and started making simple beats. I used internet to spread my music in MP3 format and was celebrated by The Pirate Bay among others for my liberal views on copyrighted music. This is a stand point which I still defend. Not saying artists shouldn’t get payed but if the market changes, you have to change with it. It’s the basic principle of capitalism, supply and demand. Anyway…

My first CD “Inner Conflicts” was my first real independent album release in 2003 and it was followed by “Let it out!” one year later. In 2006 I went on a coast to coast USA tour with my music and poetry and released a third CD titled “Spoken Words and Unheard Thoughts” which was the name of my tour.
Since then I’ve won several Poetry Slams, completed a festival tour with the Swedish National Theater and done several TV and radio appearances as well in magazines and news papers (Gringo, Dagens Nyheter, Metro, Hujada etc).

In winter of 2008 I moved to Malta on a wild pursuit for happiness.  After having spent almost 30 years in Sweden I needed a change of climate, change of pace and change of attitude. When this is being written, in October 2009 I am still residing in Malta, thinner, happier, healthier and with a nice tan. The future awaits…
